Synastry

Synastry lays two natal charts over each other and reads the geometry between them. Your planets aspect their planets: their Saturn on your Moon, your Venus trine their Mars. And each person's planets land somewhere in the other's houses, so someone can occupy your seventh house of partnership, or your tenth, or your twelfth.

The craft is in the whole ledger, not in any single contact. Every pairing of two real charts contains easy aspects and hard ones; the useful questions are which planets are involved, how tight the orbs run, and whether the friction is a kind the bond can use. A pairing with no hard contacts at all reads pleasant and a little inert, which experienced astrologers do not consider a compliment.

Synastry describes texture, not destiny: where affection flows unprompted, where the same argument will keep its shape, who plays which role when the two of you walk into a room.
