Transit
Where a planet is now, read against where everything stood at your birth. A transit is a moving planet crossing a sensitive point of the natal chart: a window of weather, not a verdict.
Your natal chart is fixed; the sky keeps moving. A transit is a current planet reaching a place that matters in the natal chart, by conjunction or any other aspect, or by walking through a house. It is the workhorse technique of astrological timing.
The tradition is more careful with transits than its reputation suggests. A transit does not do things to you; it marks a season in which certain material, already yours, comes forward. And it is a window rather than a moment: in effect before the exact date and after it, often in several passes when the planet retrogrades back over the spot.
Weight matters. The slow planets, Jupiter out to Pluto, set themes that run for months or years; the fast ones mostly supply the dates. And single transits rarely coincide with events. What practitioners actually watch for is a pileup: several transits landing on the same point, or the same few weeks.
Read that way, a transit list is not a forecast of what will happen. It is a map of which conversations are open, and roughly until when.
